Someone asked me the other day if we have any traditions during the holidays...ummm- yes is what I said because we have so many that I love:
- decorating the tree to a mix of Amy Grant, Christmas on the Beach ( I think my dad got this one at a gas station, and I can't find it online anywhere-haha!) and Harry Connick Jr. -ludwig family
- Celebrating St. Nicks Day dec. 6th (in germany they do it with shoes, but we do it with our stockings. pictured above)-remke family
- making the yearly Christmas ornament-I have one on my tree for every year since the 5th grade! -just me...so I guess our little-remke family
- driving around looking at Christmas lights! -ludwig family
- getting pajamas on Christmas eve. -ludwig family
- going to the movies on Christmas eve (my parents started this to pass time on the torturous day before Christmas with 4 little kids...and we do it every year- I can't wait till the girls are old enough)-ludwig family
- Read the story of the birth of Christ before going to bed on Christmas eve. -ludwig family
- Open presents from youngest to oldest. -remke family
- Eat crepes Christmas morning. -our little-remke family
Things I plan to add this year:
- having each girl pick out a toy for toy for tots (when we move back to the M.E. we will have them get a present for one of their friends and share the Christmas story with them)
- read the prophecies about the messiah and story of the birth of Jesus throughout December
- bake a birthday cake for Jesus on the 23rd or 24th
what are your favorite traditions? Any I am seriously missing out on? I am always up for adding new ones!

It's fun to read what you like about both your's and Drew's traditions and what you will keep and what you will add with your own family.
This year I decorated the tree to Amy Grant, Christmas on the Beach and Whitney Houston. We will go to the movie on Christmas Eve day, go to church and then off to see Christmas lights. Before we go to bed, we will open one gift (it used to be pj's but it has been amended a bit since we all have so many). However, we will read the Christmas story on Christmas Day this year. Where ever we are living our Christmas is shared with family and/or friends!
Thanks for some St. Nicholas day pictures and we look forward to others over the holidays!
I love your Christmas traditions! Once I read this I realized we don't really have any with Ella yet, I might have to steal some of yours! We do the christmas eve pj thing too. I love the movie on Christmas eve and making a yearly Christmas ornament. Such great ideas, thanks for sharing!
Tradition? We always watched "It's a Wonderful Life" on Thanksgiving day as we put up the tree to ring in the Christmas season.
And you MUST copy that post! I would LOVE to see your pics and your adventures with food..
I mean.. who doesn't love food?
And if they don't- I must ask.. why?
:)
Hi Jordan,
Two things! One, I am ALWAYS (3-4 times a day) checking your blog to see whats new at the Remkes and I'm horrible about commenting, but I love watching the girls grow. I think that can be considered stalking - but I'm not stopping!!!!!
Second, I love all your traditions. I bet you have more than most people. One of my kids favorites: They open one present on Christmas Eve and it is always a game. We play all three games as a family until it is time to go to bed. It was easier when they were smaller because there were so many choices. It is a lot harder, but much more fun for the adults now that they are in middle and high school. We have quite a selection from Hi-Ho-Cherrio to Apples to Apples and everything in between. It is a great way to pass several hours.
Love you tons. Have a wonderful Christmas.

We just started doing Family Life's "What God Wants For Christmas." It has a story book, seven little boxes, and you unwrap each box for seven days leading up to Christmas. they are all part of a little nativity scene - gabriel, mar, joseph, baby jesus, the shepherds, wise men, then day seven, you find out what God wants for Christmas - you open the box and it is a MIRROR! We LOVE it, and aside from max begging ALL day to open the next one, it is going to be a family tradition. Love yoU!
is that christmas on the beach the one with steel drums? like caribbean style? and is the amy grant one have the "immanuel, God with us!" song that you and your sisters did some fun double power fist stomp dance to? :)
cause i think i'm having a memory...weren't your cds stolen one year? and i tried to find them at ralph's records? i don't know if those are the same ones but thought i'd ask! :)
