It has been a shockingly cold couple days in the LBK. Drew promised that I could get out of the house today and he would stay home with the girls. But then it rained ice and snowed and froze over night, making it a little dangerous to go anywhere. I know you people who live in places that have winter are rolling your eyes, but trust me- driving in a ice storm here is way more dangerous due to the fact that 1) no one knows how to drive in these conditions and 2) our city isn't eaxctly equipped to get snow and ice off the roads. So, I'm staying home, even with the option of leaving.
However, I needed to get out of the house so I bundled myself up and took some pics of our ice heavy trees.

I hear that there are broken branches all over the city from the weight of the ice, I am only a little worried about our car parked under our tree. (the branches are usually a solid 5 feet above the car)
This tree was thinking that spring was right around the corner since for the last week the temperature had been in the high 60's.
Most of you know this, but for those of you who don't- Sayla has croup. She gave us quite a scare on Friday night. she woke up with a 103.8 fever, horrible barking cough and really labored breathing. We decided to take her to the emergency room (which is a first for us with either kid) and they gave her a breathing treatment and steroids and did an x-ray.
So, we are home with viral croup which means as long as she is coughing she is contagious. ugh.
I am going c.r.a.z.y! I have such a hard time being at home all day, with no option of leaving. The worst part about being home with sick babies is that nothing really gets done- I am here all day and at the end of the day all I did was hold kids and pick up toys. I didn't realize how much I depend on little outings and errands to break up my day. I didn't realize how much I find my contentment in doing as opposed to being. I didn't realize how much a resent being just a mom. I hope you know what I mean by that. I love my kids, I love being a mom, I love getting to stay home- but it is such a constant identity adjustment. My kids make me realize more that anything ever has how truly selfish I am.
Please hear me when I say that I know taking care of the girls is an important job (the most important one I'll ever have), but it is times like this that I truly see my heart and how discontent I can get in my life stage. These times are good reminders that my satisfaction and acceptance should come from Christ alone and how he has already fully accepted me- and not from how purposeful I think my life is, or some sort of entitlement to a place of importance.
Well- that's all. Pray for the girls. Pray that Keadryn doesn't get croup. I heard her coughing in the night and I am worried that just as Sayla gets better, she will get sick, which would mean another week of being stuck at home. Which, as I just confessed, may be good for me...but that doesn't mean I want it.
since sayla (who I call gracie, sweet baby grace and grace almost as much as I call sayla, by the way...) isn't putting cookies in time-out or kissing bad guys or drawing spiders or any other toddler fun, she doesn't get posts too often, but let me just say...i.love.this.girl. let me tell you some things I love about her at this age:
her hugs. she is the sweetest hugger ever- both arms open wide for a big sqeez and she nuzzles her face into your neck. and she says "awww" as she hugs you. so cute
the way she shares. she loves it when every kid in the room has a toy.
her new found love of books. she wakes up an hour before kead and I love that time with her to just sit and read.
she loves being chased/chasing people around (bonus points if it is keadryn doing the chasing) and she has the best giggle when she catches you/you catch her!
she is still the best eater ever. I seriously starting to doubt that she even has taste buds.
she is at that super fun age where is is just now starting to play creatively (like making pretend food and pretend vacuuming)
she is the sweetest little girl I know and I love how she brings joy to people by her smile and demeanor!
kead colored a picture that she called a spider, and it actually looks like a spider!...a spider with 400 legs and no head, but still- huge step developmentally!
Kead has a new obsession- bad guys. I guess this is one of the funny things about hanging out with all little boys. she is always looking for and running from bad guys. always.
in the car: Dad- go faster- that car is full of bad guys!
when we get in the house: Wait- we have to look around the house for bad guys!
When she doesn't want to go to bed: I can't, there are too many bad guys!
when I tell her I already looked and there are no bad guys she reaches behind her back and says: aww, look I just found this little bad guy hiding back there!
my favorite though is her new response to "bad guys". she kisses the bad guy and says:
Ok! now he is a good guy!
such a girly twist on the whole game! Here she is ready to fight...er...kiss the bad guys:

We had a wonderful time in Florida! We were at a camp all week without a car, except the first day and you already saw that we went to the beach...but we also drove out to the Kennedy Space Center- only to find out it closed in 30 minutes and all the tours for the day were over- sad, but it did save us $60 per a couple so we went out to eat at a fun restaurant downtown instead, so it all worked out.
being without a car meant taking lots of flora and fauna pictures at our camp. Did you know there are LOTS of oranges and LOTS of moss in florida?

And let me just say- I LOVE these girls. Jenny and Britt came with us from Lubbock and we had met Amy when she came through Lubbock last year. She instantly became a great addition to our little circle- we are hoping she will move overseas with us! As an added bonus (for me) I got to take pictures of both of the girls (jenny and amy) and had a blast!
Like I said, it was a great week filled with tons of laughter, fun, and learning. We also had such a great retreat from the girls, and came back ready to see them and ready to start the new year!
...at least you try to.... for about 10 minutes....and then you just give up and deem your subjects incompetent of jumping simultaneously. :)
seiously folks...I took over 40 pictures of this- and not ONE are they all jumping- I sure do love these pics of the attempts though, everyone was laughing so hard and I just love their faces.

we arrived in orlando today without the babes and I only cried a little this morning when we left the house without them. It will be a great break for us and hopefully a fun filled week at granny and pop's house for the girls.
